MaxSeal French Door - Pet Door

Installation Guide

Step 1: Remove the molding around the selected pane of glass where the pet door will be installed.

When removing the mullions or trim around the panes of glass, you will want to proceed very slowly so that you do not damage or break the glass pane.  This way you have the option to later remove the pet door and put the glass pane back into the door.

Step 2: Remove the pane of glass and put the molding back around the opening (without glass pane).  Store the removed glass pane for possible future use.

Sometimes (as shown in this pictorial sequence), it works best to use a glass pane area as well as a cut area in the side or the bottom of the door frame.  An electric Jig Saw or a Roto-Zip works great for enlarging your rough cut to accommodate the pet door.

Note: If you need help to determine the pet door size needed we encourage you to call us  800-829-7876.

Step 3: Your pet door comes apart into 2-frames. These frames sandwich the opening and adjust to the molding thickness.

Once you compress the 2 frames together tight drill through the pre-drilled pilot holes for your screws.  These pilot holes are located between the flaps on the flanges that compress to accommodate your door thickness.

Step 4:  You may want to apply a bead of caulk or silicone around the perimeter of the rough cut to ensure a tight weather seal around the exterior frame.

There are 2 ways to caulk around the exterior frame of your door.  You can pre-caulk as shown in the image to the left...or apply a bead of caulk around the exterior frame of the door after it is completely installed.
